Hayvanlardan beslendik, ayn%u0131 zamanda k%u00fcrCould you briefly introduce yourself? What has inspired you along the path to becoming a designer?I was born in Eski%u015fehir in 1975. I graduated from the Fashion and Accessory sub-branch of the Textile Department at Dokuz Eyl%u00fcl University Faculty of Fine Arts. The department%u2019s curriculum included fashion design, fabric knowledge, leather goods, silver jewelry workshops, shoe design and material knowledge. Although not so comprehensive, we had the chance to engage with almost every subject related to design. This provided a broad perspective. Personally, my %u201chunter-gatherer%u201d nature also contributed significantly to my design and production process. Since we are talking about %u2018design%u2019, let me elaborate on this hunter-gatherer aspect. As a child, I had a suitcase that I used as a treasure chest. I would collect perfume bottles, beautiful objects, and interesting pieces. I also loved walking in nature, collecting pieces and curiously observing plants and insects. As I got older, I started visiting flea markets on weekends, which are full of treasures. Studying the inner workings of everyday mechanical devices also helped me a lot. With all these experiences, combined with my design education, I opened my first small workshop in T%u00fcnel, Beyo%u011flu. A few years later, thanks to a coincidence and the impact of what I had created by then, I began working as a designer for Trexta, a Turkish company that was one of Nokia%u2019s global accessory suppliers. I spent four years going through a significant industrial process there. Afterward, I left and returned to my workshop. During my studies, I had the chance to spend nearly a year at G%u00f6n Deri, one of the most important leather product companies in the country, due to a bag design competition. G%u00f6n was a real school. At this point, I want to emphasize the importance of knowing quality companies, businessmen, masters and workers in your career. No one can succeed alone. Design and production are definitely a team effort.What kind of materials do you use in your designs?I can use any material in my designs and if there%u2019s a new material, I research and learn about it.
